Someone who will listen

When you’re feeling down it can be hard to know who to talk to. Check out this video about how one girl got up the courage to speak to a professional.

It was like I could let out all the stuff inside me

Knowing who you can talk to can be one of the most difficult parts of seeking help. In this video, this girl talks about feeling depressed and crying all the time. When her boyfriend tells her about his experience of talking to a counsellor, she decides to try it out. At first she’s not sure she can trust the counsellor, but over time learns that talking to a professional can be seriously helpful.

Hi Jon, good point and any professional who is mandated to report will give a disclaimer at the beginning of a session or talk. This will let the client/young person know what the limits are to their confidentiality and explain exactly what types of information will have to be reported. Cheers.

This is a great video, especially for encouraging talking to friends & getting professional support. However, I'm wondering about manditory reporting - "... and I thought the counsellor was going to tell my mum or the school... " Actually, in many states in Australia, a counsellor/psychologis of a child would be mandated to report several issues such a sexual or physical assault (see http://www.aifs.gov.au/cfca/pubs/factsheets/a141787/index.html for detail on mandatory reporting). So I think this video might be a bit misleading on this aspect... But keep up the awesome work - great site and video collection... Jon
