Break it down for K Rudd – young people style
The Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, recently announced the Australian Government’s intention to develop a National Strategy for Young Australians. The Government’s vision is for all young Australians to:
‘Grow up safely, healthy, happy and resilient and to have the opportunities and skills they need to learn, work, engage in community life and influence decisions that affect them’.
The PM identified 3 reasons for developing a Strategy:
- One in five Australians are under 25, and make a strong contribution to Australia, our economy, our culture, our sport and our nation;
- This generation is facing new challenges (changing social and family structures, changing skill requirements etc) and;
- There are specific areas of concern that require national action (including binge drinking, mental health and violence).
Here’s your chance to tell the Government what you think (for realsies!)
We’ve created our own little conversation on the ROtreat Forums – where the comments you make will be fed back to the Federal Government and used to inform the National Strategy for Young Australians.
So yep, KIND OF A BIG DEAL!
To set your brains a firing, we've kicked started the little conversation over on the ROtreat forums discussing:
- What role the Australian Government should have in supporting young people to develop positively?
- What would YOU want to see in a National Strategy for Young People?
So head on over and join the convo now!
P.S
Tell your friends to come and have a chat too. When else do you get to tell the PM what you think?

Reply ReportI'm 27 and work for a not-for-profit organisation called the AER Foundation. AER are particularly interested in young people and alcohol and want to talk to young Australians about how to best make a positive impact on their lives!
We've just launched our blog and are keen to hear your thoughts, ideas, opinons, stories and solutions. AER will then follow this up with face-to-face consultative groups, so please log on and tell us what you think!
