Creating 'Explore': Part II
Hi everyone,
Thanks so much for your great feedback around the emotions that you’d like to use when navigating the site. We’ve had over 40 comments and are now in the process of consolidating all your feedback to come up with a final list, which we will reveal to you shortly!
So onto the next thing we need your help with…
As you guys know Reach Out is all about getting young people to content that helps them to make positive choices about their wellbeing.
So, as well entering how you are feeling we want to make sure you get to the most relevant and helpful content by displaying content tagged by other people who felt like you.
For example: say you are feeling stressed, the explore section will allow you to view a list of content that has been tagged by other people who also felt stressed – so, a factsheet on managing stress might be tagged ‘reassuring’, a story by a young guy who aced his exam might be tagged ‘inspiring’, tips about managing study pressures with life responsibilities might be tagged as ‘informative’.
To get this process started we consulted with the Youth Ambassadors during the redevelopment of Reach Out. They came up with the great list of tags below to help us start the discussion:
- Inspiring
- Informative
- Reassuring
- Positive
- Confronting
- Brave
Now it’s time for the rest of the community to pitch in!
There will be a maximum of six tags to begin with, so have a think about the list above: Are there any tags that don’t resonate with you? Or that you’d really like included?
Once you’ve considered these questions post up your list of six tags – It might be the original list, a brand new list, or a mixture of both!
We're looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
Cheers,
Mim + Janice

Reply Reporti think that this "navigate by the way you feel" is a great idea. The site can be quiet confussing when you are new to it and it would be a good starting point for new users like my self. it would be good to see fact sheets, forums, blogs ect to help deal with that sertain emotion.....
sometimes you just need a good vent session...would be good to see like a "diary" forum on here to...write every day or once a week or what ever...write what you want and how your feeling, maybe someone else is having the same day as you and you could bounce off of each other....maybe someone that is happy could cheer someone up who is sad with their enteries. Sometimes it is hard to know what to post and where and you could just go ahead and write what ever in the "diary" forum. It would be a good starting point also foe new people. You could even click on the "feeling" icons to add to your diary page.....sort of like a stamp.....
any hoot just a thought....

Reply ReportHey Doris,
Sorry for the confusion, We are not yet sure if this is going ahead due to funding but yes you totally have the right idea.
I love the idea of using pictures, Maybe we could use your idea in other areas of the forum. Like start a thread in Zen Den for people to upload inspirng images and quotes. What do you think?

Reply Reportok, after reading everything on this thread, I still want to clarify: so if I logged in and nagivate in my mood, using an earlier example: "stress" the site will take me to fact sheets and stories etc that will counteract my stress levels right?
so with the earlier idea of quizes and there was one that said if something felt blah and didn't want to answer questions, what about using pictures instead? Like if I clicked "sad", to counteract that using funny pictures or quotes. It could be a photo of an cat sleeping on its owner's face or something (I am sure there are plenty around online) or maybe using something interactive like a mini game?
ok, I have to say, the tagging needs more explaining. I don't understand what needs to be done about them.

Reply ReportHey, little late in to this, but I was just searching the net, and I found this site. Now the whole site isn't what I wanted to point out, it's the revolving (if that's how you'd describe it?) set of words about halfway down the page, and on the right.
I was looking at this site, and thought, hey, if RO had that for its 'Explore' section, it would be awesome! Clearly with different words, but the whole interactivity, aswell as the practicality of it would be great.
If you're not sure what it is in the page I'm talking about, it's sort of a sphere of black and grey words, and when you move your mouse around it, all the words (which are categories) move around, allowing you to select any word you chose.

Reply ReportI think that could be a good idea, but maybe not for this purpose.
I just think that if someone come on and is feeling a bit blah, it may be too much effort to go through 20 Q's to begin with... if that's what you meant? :P
I like all of the 6, but feel maybe Courageous fits better than brave...?

Reply ReportHey Drakus, Thanks for the tip about the fact sheet - it's on our list, although it's now more commonly known as dissociative identity disorder.
The tag is more about what you think about the fact sheet, video or story you access on the site. The emotions you might be experiencing were explore in the previous blog post about the Explore section.
The apostrophe thing is a bug, and it being fixed :)
Hope that helps!

Reply ReportShyz-as, it's a good idea; something like one of the better facebook quizzes.
There's nothing on this site about multi-personality disorder.
& I didn't understand the six tag thing either.
They're all really upbeat & optimistic, which probably won't be what you're feeling if you're on this site.
& why don't apostrophes work?

Reply ReportHey guy's
Personally i really think that there should be like a mmod gym, with a Quick 20Questions on how your felling at the end of the test there should be some links to help you (the person answering the Q's).
its just a suggestion!

Reply ReportYep, thats what I had in mind.
I am with you, so hmm...I like that idea:
-Feeling lethargic - click unhappy or whatever - read positive stories, blogs - inspiring stories? - hmm...did I like it - yes or no?
Worse case scenario: what if YP didnt find the story, blog or whatever...inspiring? Can there be a direct link to perhaps the emergency call? :o)
You know like someone, who is having the worst day of their life and cannot just be bothered reading anything or care for anything - perhaps they can get linked to the emergency stuff. Wadayareckon?
I am hoping stories will help change their thinking, but some may not think so or want that.

Reply ReportHi Locita,
I think that we could have explained ourselves better. I'll have another go...
The idea is that when you arrive at Reach Out/Explore you are prompted to enter or select how you are feeling. This might be a drop down list or say an interactive mood map.
If you select that you are feeling 'stressed'. You will be shown content related to feeling 'stressed'.
This may include tips written by the Reach Out Crew but also content that other young people who felt stressed tagged. For example, people who also felt 'stressed' found 'x factsheet, x blog post and x factsheet "informative"', 'x story and x story "inspiring"', 'x factsheet and x story "reassuring"'.
So what we want you to do is to come up with a list of tags that describe the kind of content you'd most want to see or perhaps be cautioned about seeing in the case of something like 'people who felt stressed found x content and x blog post "confronting"'.
Hope that explains it a little better...
Cheers,
Mim

Reply ReportI dont think anyone will understand that.
If theyre stressed - theyll click on Inspiring?
Is it something like this, correct me if Im wrong:
If you are stressed ... you click on stress - then underneath that there will be a subheading called: Inspiring?
That is so not correct, is it? Or is it correct?
:) TK
