Happiness revisited – how are you going?
A couple of months ago we blogged about Happiness, and whether or not it was something you could actually be thinking about at the beginning of the school/TAFE/uni/work week.
We challenged you to come up with three things you would do over the following week to make yourself happier, with the help of some of our happiness fact sheets and tips on what, according to the research, might contribute towards you being happier, or improving your mental health.
You, the Reach Out community, responded to the challenge enthusiastically, bombarding us with your thoughts on and tips for Happiness, and checking in to let us know how you were going afterwards.
Well, the blog post has sunk down the list a bit, so I thought I’d resurface it, and ask you to report back on how you’re going. Or, if you didn’t see the blog post last time or were too busy to jump onto the Happiness bandwagon, maybe this blog post will prompt you to think about creating your own Happiness plan this time around.
Community challenge:
Once again - let us know what happiness means to you and three things you plan to do in the next week to make yourself feel happier.
For more info and tips for increasing your happiness, check out the previous blog post on Happiness and our fact sheets on what happiness is and tips for increasing your happiness.
Good luck and remember to come back here and let us know how you go – what works for you, what doesn’t, and what insights you can share that might give other people some ideas.

Reply ReportI believe in the following:-
Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by
the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as
by the way your mind looks at what happens. - John Homer Miller
"What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters
compared to what lies within us." - Emerson
"Being a part of something bigger than just your own needs is the
basis for real spiritual growth" - Sri Shambhavananda

Reply Reporthappiness is getting to school in the morning and seeing your friends smile. Happiness is a reward you get when something good happens, or you do something good, happiness is caring and knowing that others care too. Happiness is an emotion we would not recognise without all the tough shit we have to go through.
This week to make myself happier i am going to:
a) not listen to the bad things people say(easier said than done but I will put all my effort into it)
b) Make someone else feel good about themselves, 'cause I know even the smallest compliment, if your willing to believe it, can brighten someones day.
c) eat chocolate :)
d) talk to someone. I'm considering seeing the counsellor for the first time ever on Monday, see if she can help me help my depressed friend any more than this site has. Thanks Reach Out.

Reply ReportLol, I can't believe doing your tax made into onto your happiness plan! I like your attitude. How did you go with the trip planning? That sounds like good fun!
My happiness plan for this week includes:
- Go for a regular walk/jog to get myself active and feeling healthy. Preferably with my housemate!
- Spend time being mindful at least once a day and go to my mindfulness group tomorrow (this links in to a couple of tips for happiness on that factsheet).
- Spend time with some friends.
- Try to eat healthier and at more regularly and do my physio exercised every day!

Reply ReportThanks for posting your plans everyone :)
For anyone who is looking to plan their tips based on what the research says works, remember to check out the tips for happiness fact sheet.
So here are some of my 'happiness plans' for the weekend - each of them follow one of the tips in the fact sheet:
- meet up with friends
- go and check out one of my favourite furniture stores - I may not be able to afford most of the stuff, but I can admire it and appreciate its design + beauty
- do some holiday / work + general planning
Oh - and I'll have to do my tax too...but that could also be a happy event if I get a refund!
Happy weekend everyone!

Reply ReportIt's funny how it's hard to think of things that will make you happy when you're feeling down... but here goes
1. go for a walk around the lake
2. spend time with my family
3. finish my uni work (although doing it doesn't make me happy, I think I'll be happy when it's done)
Hopefully tomorrow is a day of better things...

Reply ReportHappiness is definitely something I can, and I believe should, be thinking about at the beginning of the week - I should be thinking about it often!

Reply ReportWell, I didn't achieve all of mine, so I will have to carry one or two into the coming week!
I did manage to have a walk on the beach with my partner which was sooo lovely, and also got my coffee which definately made me go woot! Its funny how sometimes the smallest things can add up to make life feel happier and more fulfilling!
I have been doing a lot of self-reflection but I need to keep this one going so that is one of my ones for this week.
I didn't manage to do the shopping I wanted to, but I have a few little things stowed away, so I think what I might do is get creative and make something from what I have for the girls! Thats my number two.
My number three for this week is to practice some mindfulness of thoughts - I think this will be an important one with such a busy week ahead!
Finally to add one more, I want to try walking barefoot more! So this week I'm going to take every opportunity I can. I did it this weekend at the beach and at home just putting the washing out and checking the veggie patch and it was super nice!
So those are my 3 -4 things, love to know everyone else's for this week?!

Reply ReportThey all sound like great plans :)
I'm going to copy a couple of them - get some exercise at the beach, get down to the beach for a read/crossword/walk/coffee/ relax, start reading a book I'm using on my reflection leave on my trip (the Artist's way) and spend a lot of time with good friends and with family (who are all good..don't know if you can qualify the 'goodness' of family!)...
...that seems to tick off a fair few of the tips for happiness as far as I can see!
Happy weekend and keen to hear other people's happiness plans and how consciously planning for happiness is working for you.

Reply ReportI haven't been doing it in this way lately (sad) - but I have made some bigger changes in my life around increasing positive activities and taking time out from uni work to live a little, lol.
It came up in my counselling today though, so maybe its time to re-focus a little! So for this week/weekend since the week is almost over:
- Complete a bit of reflection (on life/myself) that is overdue but also something I'm keen to do!
- Go to the beach (hopefully!).
- Get a weekend coffee from my absolute fav. cafe which I have been wanting to do for weeks but keep having 'more important' things to do. I know I will be like, woot! if I do go in.
- Shop for some wee presents for my little nieces as I'm going for a visit next week and spoiling them is my absolute favourite thing to do!
