Just found out your final exam results? How to cope if they're not what you'd hoped for
If you've just finished your final year of school this year - congratulations! It's a massive achievement, and one you can feel really proud of.
Final exam results started coming out this week, and depending how happy you are with how you went, this might feel like a really good week, or a really bad one. It can be a particularly difficult time if you're feeling pressure from other people, like family, on top of that from yourself.
I remember back to when I got my results years ago - I really didn't want to know my marks as I was sure the mark would be a let down. I was in the shower when my mum knocked on the bathroom door and handed me the phone, pretending it was a friend; it was actually a robot reading out the numbers!
I wasn't that happy with the result, since it didn't meet the high expectations I'd set myself, but even though my preferred pathway was closed, others were still open, and things all worked out just fine - in fact, probably better.
Similarly for the the young person in this story about final school year results - it actually ended up feeling like a stroke of luck that she didn't go as well as she'd hoped initially.
And that's the really important thing to remember - there are always other pathways to what you want to do. It might not feel like it now, but there are always alternatives and other options.
Talking to someone to explore your options might be helpful - this could be a friend, family member or counsellor.
Check out the Coping with exam results fact sheet for more tips on how to get through this time.
But most importantly, remember to be kind to yourself now - maybe plan some fun activities as a bit of a reward, or celebrate with friends or family.
You've been through a really big year, and have finished school - a massive achievement in itself!
Does anyone have any tips to share about how they've dealt with disappointing exams marks, and what helped them get through the time?
What's everyone doing to celebrate school being finished?
Congratulations again from the Reach Out crew :)

Reply ReportHey guys, remember marks are marks, they are not the make or break moments of your life. Whilst initially you may feel that receiving a bad mark is the end of the world- don't freak out, there are still pleny of options for you to chase and achieve your dream!
I help develop the facebook page Good Uni Guide: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Good-Uni-Guide/131174170228257?ref=ts and there we actually deal with many questions such as - "i didnt get x mark, can i still get into Arts/Education?" or "what uni can i attend if i didn't finish year 12?"
Truth is, in Australia there are many institutions that allow for alternative entry. I strongly urge you and all your friends to join the group and find out the answers to all your uni quieries--and discover some funny facts too!
Cheers,

Reply Reporthey guys
congrats on finishing!!
i sat the hsc last year and didn't do as well as i wanted. But i'm so glad that i didn't do well cause if i did just that bit better i would have been stuck in a course that i would have absolutely hated and would have most definitely failed.... so i agree with the above blog! i think just go with the flow.... you'll get to where you want to be some day and if the journey that you are undertaking takes you else where, as long as you are happy go with it i'd say!!
congrats to all once again!

Reply ReportI got my results yesterday! Although they weren't as great as most, I was actually faily content with what I got, considering year 11 & 12 weren't the best 2 years of my life.
I knew I wasn't going to get amazing results, but I tried as best I could and decided that even if my marks were terrible, I knew I had tried and that's all anyone should be able to ask of me.
So all in all, I think that to you people, who may not have gotten the best marks, remember you tried, you gave it your all, and that's amazing in itself. You made it to the end (not all can do that) so be proud you got there, and be proud you tried!
My end results were four Band 3s and a Band 4. See, not the greatest, but hey, I tried!
So remember guys, we did our best, we made it!
Good luck in the future kiddies, follow the path that leads to your dreams. No matter how rocky, you'll get there if you believe.
xx MJ.
