Just started your final exams for school? Some tips from Reach Out
It's that time of year again - end of school exams.
I think back to my own final exams many years ago (I did the HSC) and I remember people wishing me luck, sending me flowers, mum bringing me sticky date pudding (yes, I was spoilt), people telling me it would all be over soon.... but I don't think I really believed them.
It can be a pretty stressful time for a lot of people, especially when there are pressures to get certain marks to get into particular courses.
But of course, with some hindsight, it is possible to see that it shouldn't be as stressful a time as it is. There are always alternative ways to get where we want, even though it sometimes feels like this might be the 'only chance'.
When we're in year 12, we don't always know all the options ahead of us, and we don't necessarily even know what jobs are going to exist once we enter the workforce - things just change so quickly.
So all of you out there doing exams - good luck! The Reach Out crew *sends you all the good luck vibes* we can.
ReachOut.com hs a whole lot of fact sheets and stories that you might find useful at this time:
Exam time: Hints for managing stress

...plus lots more.
Let us know what you're doing to manage stress at this time - you might give other people some ideas too!
Good luck everyone :)

Reply Reportthat's great that your counsellor is helping you manage your stress Dark Poet!
Do other people have tips, or examples of how different things, like visiting a counsellor, have helped you manage stress?

Reply ReportMj is right.... there are other options to get into uni or into a course that you may be interested in...
I workd at a centre that has a wonderful counsellor who is awesome to talk to about what u are thinking or feeling. And there is a homeowrk day where you can come in relax and not stress and study... but this is an option that Auburn Youth Centre Does provide..
hope that all you do well in your exams..

Reply ReportIt is true that there can be more than one way to get into the career that you want and getting a high ATAR and getting into Uni straight away is not the absolute only option available.
I remember my experiences as a Year 12 last year and it's really not worth it to get so stressed and feel so pressured to do well that your mental health goes down the drain. Looking after yourself and your wellbeing is very important too. Taking some time to do some exercise, or listen to music, taking a break to relax can be helpful.
Good luck to all Year 12s and anyone else going through exams right now. You will all do well I'm sure :)

Reply ReportI'm in year 12, doing my HSC.
Thankfully only have 2 exams left (already completed 4 in the first 3 days).
I think for me the pressure is slightly reduced because I'm not getting an ATAR (UAI) and only getting a HSC. I've already applied for TAFE courses and specialised Colleges in the area that I wish to work.
It really is true that there are SO many other ways into your desired career other than just your HSC (or the like).
I'm not denying that I don't get stressed (as I still have the expectations of myself and others upon me) but it puts me more at ease to realise that I can still get where I want to be.
Remember that guys. Just do the best you can and feel proud for trying!
Good luck fellow year 12s!!
xx MJ.
