Melbourne Cup – horses, sweeps, hats...+ gambling
For most of us Melbourne Cup Day is a day for dressing up, getting involved in some sweeps with workmates or friends, and perhaps having a glass of champagne or two. Nothing too serious! (the people down in Flemington at the track might disagree with me on that one...!)
However, for others gambling is a more regular activity, which can start to impact on their day to day lives, causing problems with relationships, work and of course money.
If you are worried that gambling may be becoming a problem for you, a friend or family member, it might be a good idea to check out the fact sheets listed below as a starting point. There are lots of tips and referrals in there if you want to find out more and get help for yourself or a friend.

Reply ReportI didn't even know it was Melbourne cup day or whatever until I started talking to someone about gambling. I'm just so up with the news media, clearly.

Reply ReportI think that melb cup can be a great day esp in workplace as it can create a great vibe amongst people around you. Im never up for the gambling side as i dont see the fun in it and it can become dangerous and affect peoples lives if it becomes a habit.

Reply ReportHorses are my favourite animal ever. Always have been and always will be. But I hate racing. Its cruel and again, it encourages gambling. I believe it should be banned; it wont ever happen; but that's just my opinion. ;)
Hope you all had a great day!

Reply ReportMy money was on Daffodil. Ahwell, it didn't win but it was a bit of fun.
I'm a huge fan of racing!! Also a huge fan of So You Think, trained by J B Cummings. He won the Cox Plate on only his 5th start! That's incredible.
Anyway, don't mind me :P
