World Mental Health Day Challenge

pink_flowers_blossom

So, following the last blog post on Mental Health Week, Saturday 10th October, 2009 is Mental Health Day.

With each state breaking out their own bag of goodies to drum up awareness, education and discussion, it is expected that the upcoming year will yield a lot more engagement with the issue of mental health and wellbeing by the larger community.

But for us, it seems time to get a challenge for ourselves. So here goes:

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH CHALLENGE 09

Identify, plan and carry out three things that will be GREAT for your mental health in the upcoming week. Whether is it spending some time writing, listening to a new type of music, visiting old friends or family, meditating...whatever you feel you need...whatever you want...

State your goals here, give updates on your progress and say when you have completed the challenge.

Ready...set...act!

Ok, so my goal is to nail this song I'm learning on guitar. It's called "Eternal" and it's an instrumental by Evanescence (the original is on piano, not guitar).

I don't actually play guitar, but my bro taught me how to read guitar tabs, and this one was pretty easy. With my limited guitar playing skills, it's sounding so far like what it's supposed too, but it's definitely not down pat yet.

So yeah, that's my goal.

Also, as my other two (which I hadn't originally thought of)

I will stop my procrastination, and start studying for my HSC. It's not fun, but it will make me feel better, knowing I'm at least trying, and giving it my best shot.

Plus, I will do a new artwork. Have been slack lately, haven't done much art. So I will do that :)

good luck hun :)

I have a really bad habit of starting something and never finishing it

goal one: I also love art and have been really slack and don't draw and paint anymore so I will finish a drawing

goal two:I need to finish one of the many sudoko puzzle books I constantly buy and never finish as keeping the brain active and i've personally seen helps avoid dementia!!!

goal three:I will get off my laptop make a hot cuppa crawl into bed and read my poor neglected anne rice book

now setting them is the easy part.....lol

Sounds fantastic guys! Art, music and a great book, what more do you need :)
I am going to try to turn off the tv and shut down my pc when I get home, and read a new book instead of the old favourites I like to recycle!

Good luck guys!

Ooh sounds good.

Well, for a few weeks I have been wanting to go to a Yoga class, and also been wanting to try to do 10 minutes of mindfulness practice a day (just cos sometimes something formal is good for me). So maybe this is a good motivation, lol.

1. Go to a Yoga class.
2. Do 10 minutes of structured mindfulness a day (or as many days as I can).
3. Do some art and be creative - yay!

I'm getting closer, I started practising it to the original, to get the right speed of the song, and it's working. Though I have a tiny blister on my finger now haha.

Ok - here are my 3!

1. To get a lot of work done on uni and tafe assignments this weekend so I don't feel so overwhelmed...

2. Chillax for at least half an hour each day and have some "me" time (I've been working on this with my psych - I don't know how to relax! lol!)

3. To get back into going to the gym :)

Good luck to everyone with their goals!

1. To take the time out to say 'I love you' to my family and friends and mean it. (family circumstances have made me realise how much these three words can give a person hope and optimism)

2. Take care of myself during this tough time my family and I are experiencing.

3. Have plenty of 'me' time so that I don't exhaust myself physically and emotionally.

That's a really tough one for me, because I change every day. So, the change I have going on is how I live my life. I get bored easily, so 'changing' is how I rollllll!!! :)

Can I say: 2012? Coming Soon?

@Shawty
I think your challenge should be coming up with 3 positive things you can do for yourself. Even if you change everyday, you can look back on what you decided on and remember that's your focus... come on give it a go:) You can do it! :)

@Nadine
I am an observer & explorer, not someone who has 3 positive things to do or look forward for. All I have - is what I see & write about it. I am a writer, who sees a lot of things in different ways!

Lets try this:

1: 2012 - Hopefully find the happiness & my true Identity, after I leave RO
2: 2015 - Finish my Novel
3: 2020 - Release my Novel

My Novel is basically based about how I came across ReachOut...and what 2012 is like today (which will be in 2012

It's not like my other books that are poetry & inspirational quotes.
