Mindfulness workshop 2011
Are you aged 15-24?
Will you be in Melbourne Feb-March 2011?
Join us to learn how to reduce stress and help create video content we can provide to other young people online.
A group of researchers from Reachout.com, Melbourne and Monash universities, with the help of a few young people have put together a group stress reduction program that uses mindfulness meditation as the cornerstone.
This is a surprisingly simple practise where people learn to focus on their breath and body sensations. Gradually they come to learn that the ability to direct their attention to their bodies at will helps stop unnecessary rumination and worry in everyday life.
The program runs for 6 weeks in Parkville, Melbourne (near the Zoo) at 6-7.30 PM on Wednesday from Feb 17th, 2011.
We ask you to fill out some questionnaires before, after and 6 weeks after the program to see if it has improved things for you emotionally. We are looking for young people who would be happy for any videos taken of them during the program to appear online as the core of an online mindfulness program we are developing for Reachout.com. We can anonymize participant’s faces if requested.

Reply ReportHey Breeze,
Welcome to RO!
I am not sure what kind of activities and stuff you are looking for but we have heaps of info you may find helpful in this section of our site: http://au.reachout.com/find/getting-help/who-can-help-you. This section is also really cool with heaps of info and tips about working through stuff yourself: http://au.reachout.com/find/getting-help/who-can-help-you
A really easy way to find out what groups ect.. are going on in your local area is to use lifeline's "service finder" This database lets you search by keyword and postcode. Here is the link: http://www2.lifeline.org.au/service_finder/
Reachout.com's forums are a really great space where you can connect with other young people who are going through similar issues to you. Check them out at this link: http://forums.reachout.com/forum.php
I hope you find this info helpfull
Keep reaching out

Reply Report@ Porcelain, hey how are you? The weather is pretty normal in Melbourne at the moment, no flood or cyclone warnings anyways :)

Reply ReportHi everyone,
I'm Kaveh... running this project. Unfortunately we don't have this program organised in Sydney... so the only opportunity to experience it live is Melbourne-based. It'd be great to have as many of you as can make it be involved. We can then develop the online version which everyone can use.
Email me on mail@mateprogram.org or call me on (03) 8346 8259 to sign up for the face to face training program in Melbourne.
Cheers,
Kaveh

Reply ReportI am new to this site and joined today. Thanks for all you efforts with it. I'm not sure where to begin and I was also wondering if there are any workshops or small group help activities in Sydney for someone aged 23?
