Monday: Not going it alone in rural areas
Living in rural and regional areas can be really tough, there’s less people, less to do, and it can really suck trying to find someone to help you work through what’s going on in your head. Seeking help when we're struggling can be hard - but it can be made even more difficult if we're living in a rural or remote area. While the issues that young people in rural or remote areas experience might not be that different from young people in the city, the way we deal with them can be very different.
Living in a rural or remote area comes with a whole heap of extra hurdles to getting help - like being worried about everyone knowing your business, being judged by people who know you too well, and not having access to the same services and transport people in the city can expect. What can you do if the only counsellor in your town is your best friend's mum? What if you think you need to see a doctor, but there's no bus to take you there? These are things that some of us in the city might not even consider when we're looking into getting help - but for people in rural or remote areas, they can be very real concerns.
On Monday 24th October at 8pm AEST, we'll be talking all about what it is like to live in a rural or remote area, how this can effect help seeking and how we can overcome these hurdles. Whether you're from a rural area or you've experienced barriers in getting help in some other way - come join in the discussion and share your thoughts, ideas and tips!
