Politicians do it, friends do it, celebrities do it (Ashton and Demi, ahem); we all do it at some point in our life. What is it that we do, you may ask? We all engage in conflict.
Everyone has been part of, or witnessed, conflict in their lives at some point. Whether it’s fighting with your parents about where you’re going on Saturday night, or more serious conflict where violence or abuse is involved, no one lives a life free of arguments. With all the millions of opinions and strong feelings in the world, it’s not surprising that we disagree sometimes, but it’s important to work out strategies to deal with this conflict so it doesn’t turn toxic.
Conflict can come from a number of different things, sometimes it’s just to do with differing opinions or values but sometimes it can be more fundamental issues around expectations, pressure or cultural differences. Sometimes you need to just talk it out and vent your frustrations, but in other situations it’s better just to walk away and take time out. Each situation is different and we all need a list of strategies to draw from when discussions turn into arguments, which turn into fights.
We’re going to be discussing this prickly issue for Monday’s Getting Real session, giving you the opportunity to share your strategies for coping with conflict. Join us here on Monday the 5th of December at 8pm AEST where we’ll talk LIVE about conflict and how to cope.
