ReachOut.com's Youth Homelessness Week - Let's take action!
Did you know that every night across Australia nearly 40,000 young people couch surf, sleep in refuges and sleep on the streets, in parks and break into houses to find a bed?
Want to do something about that?
Good!
Want to have your say?
Great!
Want to be involved in making some changes?
Awesome!
Next week the Reach Out forums are hosting 2 nights of discussions with special guests Paul Moulds from the Salvation Army and Cindi Petersen from the Kings Cross Youth Action project.
These conversations are part of an initiative by the NSW Youth Advisory Council (YAC), NSW Commission for Children and Young People, Oasis Youth Service, Youth Accommodation Association (YAA), Association of Children's Welfare Agencies (ACWA) and the Inspire Foundation.
Ever been homeless? Slept rough? Know someone who has? Just got something to say? C'mon - we want to make some changes!
So join us on the Reach Out forums THIS week and join Cindi and Paul on the 14 + 15th of July to have your say!

Reply Reportdo you reackon we could organise a mass like stake out...like that ceo did for a month. but for kids/teens/young adults and for like a couple of nights....using it a chance to raise awareness of how common homelessness is. and give people an experience of it so that they may understand what it is like. alot of people do not understand the feelings, me being one of them.

Reply ReportI am looking forward to this! I think it is a topic which doesn't always get recognised because we don't always think about it if it doesn't affect us. I think this will be a great awareness week and it will be full of fascinating information. =)

Reply ReportAwesome I'm looking forward to it! Have not really been homeless myself (although have had my stints of couch surfing) but I have to say it is a pretty crap feeling dropping a young person 'home' to the streets and for the last few years whenever we have a particularly cold night I find myself wondering about certain young people I know and hoping they have a safe and warm place to sleep. I am really excited that these discussions may be 'fed up' in a way that has the potential to inform some changes :-).
