Hey everyone :)

We are hosting a special night to raise awareness and get the word out there about young carers.

More info to come on Tuesday but in the mean time...
please read this fact sheet for more info about who a young carer actually is.

Also - please have a look at the young carers website www.youngcarers.net.au which has numbers and links to help you or someone you know :)

I hope we can see you Tuesday when we welcome staff from Carers Australia and some young carers who want to share their stories and what helps them.

:)

Ok well to kick things off for tonight, as you know this week is Carers Week and on Monday we had our official launch at Old Parliament House (Canberra) where in Her Excellency the Governor General Quinton Bryce had the honour of making the official announcement that kicked off our celebrations!

As part of our launch we have released a new research paper called the Tyranny of Distance which covers both young and old carers who live in rural and remote areas across the country.  It talks about the issues they face on a daily basis as well as the difficulties they have in accessing services so we are very excited to have this research launched this week

A link to the paper is: http://www.carersaustralia.com.au/uploads/Carers%20Australia/CA%20Research/CarersAustReport_20091007.pdf

I know it's such a fantastic opportunity to get people realising just how hard it is for rural and remote carers to access even the most basic services, so if anyone has any thoughts on that topic that they'd like to fire at us - feel free

Chey: I've read the first blog post, the one from Tori. And I agree, it is amazing what some young people are doing everyday, being a carer for someone.
