Why are they called the ROtreat forums?

These forums are a safe, fun and positive place where Reach Out members can connect with others and get some time-out, a retreat.  Combine the word retreat with Reach Out and The ROtreat was created.

Introduce yourself

This thread is the place to introduce yourself to the rest of the Reach Out community. So take 5 minutes to give us the low down on you - but remember the Rules of the house - no personal information such as full name, addresses, identifying photos or phone numbers.

I am a Reach Out Youth Ambassador and currently a Research and Policy Intern. I have been heavily involved with Inspire for about a year now, and I have loved every single minute of it! I have already completed one internship with Inspire, working directly with the Reach Out team, and now I am doing my second internship, working directly with the Research and Policy team. I feel like I am a part of the furniture at the Inspire Sydney office, because I spend SO much time there. Eventually, I would love to work at Inspire full- time, as it is a organisation which I am extremely passionate about.

Stuff about me.... I am currently in my 3rd and final year of my Bachelor in Applied Social Science (Counselling) degree. I am working towards becoming either a Clinical Psychologist or Occupational Therapist who works with Young People and their Mental Health and Wellbeing.

I love Writing, Drawing, Music, Movies, Sports, Computers, Yoga, Teddies, Incense, Candles, Animals, Reading, Family, Friends, Studying English, Studying Photography, Studying Philosophy, Studying Modern History, Styuding Politics, Studying Psychology/ Mental Health. I am passionate about Young People and their Mental Health and Wellbeing. My name is Bella,

And I think you're all just great.

he he

I'm a bit of an oldie to the RO forums, and I love them passionately. The people on here are amazing... you've all got so much strength, you're all so gutsy and determined and even though sometimes we don't feel like it, I know that we're all here to win the fight!

About me...

Well, I'm in year 12 at the moment, and I want to do psychology at uni next year. I'm passionate about a lot of things, and they all basically come down to helping people and making a difference.

I really care about all of you guys on the forums, even though I might not know you. I think you're all so worthwhile and that you're all important.

Why?

Well, you're all publicly sharing your stories and experiences, you're help fighting the misconceptions about mental illness, young people and other issues in society. You're helping people to understand and you're helping to bring all this stuff that has been traditionally, 'swept under the rug', out into the open.

I know that many people on these forums really really struggle from day to day, and sometimes even from hour to hour, or minute to minute... but I want you all to know that there is a future. You have the power to get wherever you want. If there is a will, there is a way. ;)

I speak from experience when I say that I've learnt that sometimes thinking about ending it, is a way of coping. It makes you feel secure and comforted to think that you can end it whenever you want. BUT, isn't it better to feel like there's a light at the end of the tunnel, and to let yourself work towards creating a future? Isn't it better to concentrate on something that gives you genuine hope, rather than something that gives you an escape?

Because you know what? In time, we'll all escape from whatever it is we're experiencing. We will all get better. Things will improve. And right now, we get to help each other along as we all do our best to recover. It's okay to feel down, but remember that your life is important. You have the potential to change something, to help someone and to do amazing things.

I know everyone here is capable of anything they choose.

Okay, I'll stop. That was a serious pep talk, huh?

Sorry...

I go off on tangents sometimes...

I hope your all going well and that you find yourself smiling a bit more each day.

And welcome to any new members!

I hope you like it here as much as I do :)

Hi, I am completely new to the site and just checking things out at the moment. The name was originally surcease of sorrow, which came from The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe, in one of the verses the main character is trying to find solace in his books. It is kinda weird but I like it. As you can see I talk, or write a lot. I love scrubs, buffy and angel and openly admit I am a nerd though in a good way. I like reading, a lot. I should probably stop writing now. So... Hi everyone.

Hey small ones,

I'm Char - I work for the RO and am part of the Crew. I am the Wellbeing Manager for RO - so everything I do and say is to keep you all well and feeling as happy as you can! Phew! Someone hand me a red Powerade... :)!

Some of you may know me from the old forums - so 'hi again!!!' and others I am meeting for the first time :)

I want to welcome you all on to the forums - so far I have seen nothing but great ideas and wonderful people - so keep it that way!!! Doooo it! Ha!

I am looking forward to working with every one of you to make these forums unique - unlike any other online spaces- and showing the rest of the world how everyone can increase their mental health and wellbeing.

See you soon.

Peace.

Hey guys! I'm Jen (also known as canberra-jd from the old forums). Currently I'm studying to be a paramedic at uni and am also doing youth work online through TAFE (yeah, ok, I'm crazy, I know :P)

I love learning new things, helping other people and teaching people. A couple of things I'm really passionate about are youth access to health services and mental health services - I for one know how hard it is to find them, going through my own issues with all that stuff!

Reach Out is the one place I know I can go to get a bit of extra information and for people to point me in the right direction! It was ultimately from people on the old forums that I actually started realising what was really going on with me and how to take positive steps forward! I really hope I can become involved through the new youth involvement model because I have a crazy passion for Reach Out and I really want to give back!

I've rambled enough - I've got to get to class! See you all around on the forums!

Im Olliie....y'all may know me as Faye. Legally changed my name to Ophelia.

Im not new to this....but I love supporting Inspire/ReachOut, because they supported me, back a year ago on my bumpy journey, as many of you peeps may know. I finished the short tv segment (never made it on tv, but its on my website)

I have left Uni, Im at College now taking on a new path to my life, studying closely in helping youths. :)

I love music: song writing, singing and my grand piano and keyboard. Im a writer, with inspirational words and poetry. I love the beach, I cannot go anywhere without my hand sanatizer. I love dancing (from breakdancing...air-walking, moonwalking...) and I love sleeping. Im a self-publisher, I love my iPod Touch, taking spontaneous photography and photoshopping them, designing a lot of things. Im a very sensitive person and will cry at almost anything, so I love being positive about life, so I wont have to cry. :)

I recently lost two people who I was close to, but one thing I've learnt in life.....it goes on.....:)

Hope to virtually 'see' y-all round the forum!!

206,

I am the one you call for!

I just changed my name :)

Also, I want to apologise to you, because I am no longer using your super awesome display picture that you made for me. The reason for this - as you might have guessed - is that I have changed my name on here.

But it's not a totally false name, because Bella is actually my nickname (not sure why though... hmmm).

I've missed you heaps 206 and am looking forward to many more fun times on the ROtreat forums :)

I hope you've been taking good care of yourself,

Bella xo

Ps: I forgot to ask... would it be okay if I had a slice of this RO virtual cake as well?

Bella, if he called you...I think you should get first piece ...

this reminded me of ED (Tv talk host) ... some 5 year old girl created a cake cutter so everyone gets an even piece and ED had difficulties with it so she stepped on the cake cutter to get it cut through, cos it was getting stuck and wouldnt go down....shes hilarious ED.
