For just ten minutes
By: Young Person
... or at least 600 seconds
For just ten minutes
I forget about the rat race,
My unpaid bills pilling up
And the shopping/ironing/cleaning that beckons me
I forget that I am a mother,
A daughter, sister, and a partner.
I forget about life's struggles.
For those 10 mins I dream
Like I did as a child
I'll play a favourite album
And sit in the garden,
Armed with nail polish
And cotton wool between my toes
I am free to dream
I dream about writing the next theme song
For the Welsh Rugby Union Team
Or of one day being brave enough
To go sky diving
Or maybe even learn to speak Italian
When my toenails are
A lovely shade of dusty pink
And I have dreamt of free falling
I go back to my laundry
And the ironing isn't so daunting
Till the day I leave my washing alone
And jump out of that plane
I have my little daily dreams
To help me remember that I am more
Than a teenage mother with unpaid bills and the shopping to do . . .
