Friends
Try talking to a friend
Even if they haven't gone through the same things as you, they may understand how you're feeling or give you the encouragment you need to talk to a counsellor.
Friends can be good support
Ask yourself these questions. They may help you work out which friends to talk to:
- Can I trust them not to talk to other people when I don't want them to?
- Will they give me a hard time?
- Will they make me more upset?
- Can they offer me the help I need?
- Do I want to talk to someone who is not involved in the situation?
Your friends may know someone else who can help
Some of your friends may have spoken to someone like a counsellor. If you talk to a counsellor and it doesn't feel right, try someone else. We are all different. The person who helped your friend may not be right for you.
Other people can help too
If your friends are busy or tired or it is 3 o'clock in the morning there are people you can talk to anytime at Kids Helpline (1800 55 1800) or Lifeline (131 114). They are there 24 hours a day and happy to talk to you about life, the universe and everything.
You can also try writing down what is swirling around in your head or troubling you.
