School counsellors
School counsellors are people who can help you to change the things that cause you distress. A good school counsellor will work with you to find a solution to your problem. School counsellors can help you with difficulties at school or issues you may be having at home. They can help with problems with other students or teachers, study timetables or difficulties at home.
Making an appointment
Each school has a different policy on visiting your school counsellor. In most cases you need to make an appointment to see your counsellor. To find out how your school operates you can ask a teacher or friend that you trust, check out the school website or ask the front office.
Ask about your privacy
There are some instances where a school counsellor has to let other people know about your situation. It is a good idea to talk to your school counsellor before you start the session about your rights around privacy. For more information about Confidentiality check out the fact sheet on the left hand side of the page.
