How I became "Inspired"
When I first started as an intern for ReachOut.com, I had no idea what to expect. I felt unprepared, nervous, and I must admit - a bit intimidated! However, after just a few short days my outlook on the internship experience drastically changed. The environment is so friendly and welcoming that all my feelings of uncertainty immediately flew out the window. ReachOut.com’s accepting nature really makes you feel at home and that you’re part of a tight-knit community. Everyone at the organisation is 100% dedicated to making a difference in the mental health and wellbeing of Australia’s youth - each person here genuinely cares about the work that they do.
ReachOut.com has taught me effective ways of responding to young people in tough situations that I will definitely take with me and make use of in the future. It feels so rewarding to lend a helping hand and offer any kind of support, encouragement, or advice to teenagers who are going through a difficult time. From being involved in the internship program, I have learned how to translate my academic skills from school into the professional workplace and impart my knowledge from personal experience to other teenagers’ similar circumstances. The organisation has also put things into perspective for me in terms of a potential career path - I now know that I would absolutely love to devote my future job towards “inspiring” young people.
I have learned so much from all of the amazing people at ReachOut.com, and I can now leave Australia with a more in-depth understanding of psychology and mental health. Contributing to ReachOut.com has been such an enjoyable experience, I could not have asked for a better internship placement. I am so grateful to have been a part of such an incredible organisation, and look forward to sharing the values that ReachOut.com has instilled in me with everyone back in the United States. Thank you so much to everybody at ReachOut.com who has helped me grow and mature as a mental health contributor!
