I don't usually talk about myself so I don't know what to say. My name is Dylan. I have heaps of hobbies. I like cars. I like sports. I like games. [On-screen text] Dylan I like to see myself as funny...that's me. [On-screen title] Keeping up with my Culture. Identity. Self. [On-screen text] Life in lockdown I feel like it's been really difficult for young people. We're in the most social period of our lives. So in order to adapt to a totally different lifestyle, it's been quite difficult and taking a pretty big mental toll on all of us, yeah. Pre-COVID, I didn't really liek going out or I'd rather stay home, but now not having the option to, even if I wanted to, it really sucks, yeah. My experience during COVID, as a young Australian Vietnamese has been quite different from some of my friends. I feel like there has been an underlying hint of racism that has emerged from stigmas regarding COVID. It was a lot easier to talk about with my Asian friends rather than my Caucasian friends. Yeah, it's quite saddening, yeah. [On-screen text] Cultural connection I definitely take pride in being able to speak Vietnamese and also being Vietnamese. I think that being bilingual is more of a skill, the more time goes on. Ever since moving out, I haven't been able to eat good Vietnamese food, good home-cooked food, so I've been trying to cook Vietnamese food. Hasn't been that successful, but we'll get there. [On-screen text] Looking after yourself My advice during COVID or lockdown, would be just up-skill. Start hobbies you've always had in the back of your mind. And also just to keep yourself occupied. We're all in this together, seek help, seek help from friends, family support systems. You are not alone. There's always someone willing to help you.
