[Rebecca] Hi, my name is Rebecca Hatch. I'm 18 years old and I'm a singer-songwriter from Western Sydney. When I was 16 I won Triple J's Unearthed High Indigenous Intiative at the National Indigenous Music Awards. [on screen title] Rebecca Hatch on being a role model [Rebecca] I've always had two cultures that I've kind of been split between; my mum, which is being Samoan, Polynesian, and then I've had my dad, which has been Aboriginal, Kamilaroi. [Rebecca's mum] Seeing Rebecca being a role model for a lot of young people, especially Indigenous and Pacific Islanders; I'm very proud of her. [Rebecca] I didn't realise until now how much it meant when I get played on stuff; it's a big deal because it's kind of like I'm the underdog from like Western Sydney. I'm the brown girl from Western Sydney. [Rebecca's mum] She's a proud Campbelltown girl, she won't trade it in for anybody. She will fight to lift that area up. [Rebecca] I feel like it feels really good to be able to do things good for your culture and for your people, and be that role model for people to look up to, and be like "Oh, I don't have to turn into these stereotypes that people want us to be." [Rebecca's mum] If she can be able to help another young person, then my job is done.
