Signs and symptoms of depression What you see: - angry outbursts - weight gain/loss - withdrawing from close friends and family - not participating in hobbies/activities - skipping work, school, social things - not taking care of appearance and hygiene - reckless behaviour - not getting things done at work/school What you DON'T see: - difficulty sleeing, or over-sleeping - change in appetite, including 'comfort eating' - fatigue - less interest in sex, intimacy issues - low motivation, difficulty getting going - muscle aches - not enjoying things you used to - thoughts of self-harm or suicide - negative self-talk - headaches - feeling down or 'numb' - upset stomach - feeling worthless, hopeless, angry or irritable - difficulty concentrating or remembering things
