Taking care of yourself during the bushfires

  • Whether you've been directly affected by the bushfires or you're feeling overwhelmed by the news, it can be a pretty hard time.

  • Set limits on your social media use - set time aside to check your phone when you're in a good headspace. If you're in a bushfire affected area and need to be checking updates, make sure you check in with your mates and family as much as possible.

  • Small things you do can make a difference - commit to one action a week that will help with the bushfire relief.

  • Celebrate good news - make time for good news stories to balance out the sad ones.

  • Even if you're stressed, keep up your regular routine - exercise, see your friends, study or work, eat regular meals.

  • If you get into a conversation about the bushfires, it's fine to say 'Can we please change the subject, I'm not feeling up to this'.

  • Make 10 mins a day to do something you want to do, talk to your friends and family and seek support if you need it.

Make even just 10 minutes in your day to do something you want to do, talk to your friends or family if you're feeling down and seek support if you need it.
